The League of Northern Democrats (LND) has formed an alliance with the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) to work for the common good of Northern Nigeria and the country. This coalition aims to tackle challenges facing the north, foster unity and helping the north regain its status as a beacon of progress, culture, and leadership in Nigeria.

Addressing ACF members on Thursday, LND Chairman Senator Ibrahim Shekarau emphasized the importance of this transformative coalition. He noted that the collaboration with other northern groups, including the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) and the Middle Belt Forum (MBF), marks a significant step towards unity.

Shekarau, represented by LND member Ibrahim Isa Bio, highlighted the need for commitment, collaboration, and a shared vision. The LND’s visit to ACF came shortly after the Forum criticized President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies.

“In our effort to rebuild a stronger Northern Nigeria, we have held consultative meetings with the NEF and MBF. Our discussions have led to agreements in principle to forge a coalition among our four organizations,” Shekarau said. “This coalition is not just for today but for the future—a future where Northern Nigeria regains its status as a beacon of progress, culture, and leadership in Nigeria.”

He added that this unified front would complete the long-sought unity of the North. The coalition’s impact will be profound, compelling political entities to support and align with their vision, thus reclaiming the dignity, stability, and influence of Northern Nigeria for the benefit of all Nigerians.

Shekarau expressed gratitude to the ACF for the opportunity to engage in this critical meeting. He acknowledged the serious challenges facing the region, including poverty, insecurity, illiteracy, religious intolerance, disunity, and diminishing political influence. However, he emphasized that these issues are reversible with commitment, collaboration, and a shared vision.

“We owe ourselves and future generations the duty to address these challenges,” Shekarau said. “The ACF’s contributions in preserving the values, culture, and dignity of the North have been a guiding light. The LND brings fresh perspectives, innovative strategies, and a renewed commitment to advancing the interests of our people.”

The coalition between the LND and ACF represents a historic opportunity to amplify the collective voice of the North. It aims to ensure the region’s priorities take center stage in national discourse, pool resources to create impactful solutions, and strengthen the North’s economic, political, and social fabric.
